Tonight’s Goodnight Tango… came to me as an idea for this post… completely by accident.
I wanted to write about mistakes… yes… this thing that we think we do when we dance and we immediately “sorry” our partner. So I Googled “tango about mistakes” and guess what came up as the first result! The famous tango scene from the movie “The scent of a woman”. Do you remember the dialog that Al Pacino has with Gabrielle Anwar just before they go to the dance floor? He offers to dance with her and she is reluctant. When he asks why she says she is afraid of making a mistake… and then comes the line that I have totally forgotten but encapsulates exactly what I wanted to write today.
“No mistakes in the tango, darling, not like life. Simple. That’s what makes tango so great. If you make a mistake, get over tangled up, just tango on!”
Don’t you sometimes wish that life was also as simple as tango?
PS. Guess which piece of music plays in the background during the dialog…
