Last year’s secret resolution
Another year is ending, and it’s the usual time for reflection.
I’m not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions, but last year I actually made one. I told myself:
“Let’s try to start a YouTube channel… something for new or future Tango dancers. Something that connects Tango life with real life.”
Before you go any further… just a quick note.
If you follow the blog on social media, you might be missing some posts.
Subscribing by email is the best way to stay in touch and never miss a story.
Because the audience of the blog and the audience of these hypothetical videos felt completely different, I imagined I would just upload some clips quietly and let them exist for whoever might discover them. And honestly… I still feel strange watching myself talk about Tango for introverts and all that. It’s still a bit cringe for me.
So I posted nothing about them. I shared one or two in groups for shy or introverted people, but, as expected, nothing dramatic happened. And I was secretly relieved. I’m still working up the courage to fully bring them into the light.
The first time I felt comfortable was with the survey on Rejections. Those videos felt closer to an academic presentation, something I’m much more used to. And that’s when something shifted. I even drafted the next survey on age and Tango (yes, I know—I still owe you the processed comments… sorry!).
So… what now?
Long story short: the YouTube channel is here to stay.
Maybe the content isn’t exactly for you, but maybe you know someone new to Tango… or someone shy, anxious, introverted, who might find comfort or clarity in it.
A friend recently asked me: “Why are you doing all this?”
And after thinking about it, this is my answer:
It’s not for the community we have.
It’s for the community we don’t have… yet.
The YouTube channel is for new dancers trying to find a home in Tango.
The blog remains the place for deeper thoughts, difficult conversations, and my own personal growth.
(And yes, also for the merch… shameless ad inserted!)
But the heart of everything… the spark behind every idea, post, video, survey… is the community.
💥In case you missed it💥
The Rejections in Tango survey results are out.
Watch them here before the next topic takes over.
Group love
When I started the group two years ago, I never imagined it would grow to almost 1,000 members, half of whom I’ve never met in person. Your love, support and engagement have made this space feel like a second family to me.
From the bottom of my heart…
Thank you!
Truly!
And as we move into a new year, I hope even more of you jump in:
Share your thoughts.
Ask questions.
Start discussions.
Post ideas.
Tell your stories.
Help shape the community we don’t have… yet.
The community we’re building together.
Before tonight’s Goodnight Tango… just a small thank-you.
The project is growing beyond the blog, with new videos, surveys, and a lively community.
Visiting the shop helps it stay ad-free and reader-supported
Tonight’s Goodnight Tango
Tonight’s Goodnight Tango is one of the songs that stuck with me for many days during this year, and I think it reflects our relationship with Tango.
Have a wonderful, creative, full of warm hugs new year!
